STORY ACTIVITY — Mr. BEE’s BATTERY PLAN

Mr. Bee has run into a tricky situation. Are you ready to help solve it?
Mr. Bee needs your help. Help him solve this challenge.

You can complete the challenge with or without a robot. Use pen and paper to solve the story challenge.

Challenge: Mr. Bee has one full battery to complete his mission.

He can use different amounts of his battery:

  • the whole battery
  • 1/2 of the battery
  • 1/4 of the battery
  • 3/4 of the battery

Option A: No Robot Needed

  1. Draw a rectangle to show one whole battery.
  2. Divide the rectangle into 2 equal parts. Shade 1/2 of the battery.
  3. Divide another rectangle into 4 equal parts. Shade 1/4 and 3/4.

Think About it:

  1. Which uses more battery power: 1/4 or 1/2?
  2. Which amount of battery would last the longest?

Option B: Robot (Optional)

If you have a robot, you can explore how much battery it uses.

Different settings use different parts of the battery:

  • Full power = whole
  • Half power = 1/2
  • Quarter power = 1/4
  • Three-quarter power = 3/4

Change the settings and observe what happens.
For now, just watch and explore — no measuring yet.
